Canada's Excellent Future

Tags:

I have had a great week in Toronto meeting a number of friends who have been following the progression of our thinking in the research of Canada's Excellent Future.

The important takeaways of the advice I have received echoes similar advice from the people in Victoria that I meet regularly and from others on-line, and that is, first, not to get too caught up in the weeds of public policy, second, reduce the number of 'steps', and third, try for a sweeping conversation leaving the details to later, and potentially, even to others.

Consequently, the contents of Canada's Excellent Future will be simplifed and the themes broadened.

Following an Introduction that discusses the genesis and progression of the book, Canada's Excellent Future will likely be divided into five chapters with a Conclusion.

First chapter, The World We're In: Thriving with America

Second chapter, Canadian Social Justice: Liberalism's Second Century.

Third chapter, Governing Ourselves: Laws and Elections.

Fourth chapter: Paying Our Way: The Economy and Taxes

Fifth chapter, Excellent Canadians: Who's Here, Who's Coming, and Excellent Canadian Outcomes.

Conclusion.

Much more to follow.

Twin Virtues: Inequality of Outcomes & Equality of Opportunity©

To read the book proposal please click on 'About The Book' on the menu bar at the top of the page.

Ultimately, the most successful societies find the balance between the twin virtues of inequality of outcomes and equality of opportunity.

Tax policy should be founded on the principle of generating steady tax revenues sufficient to maximise sustainable economic growth and fund best in class instruments of social justice.

Public policy should never be designed to decrease inequality but should always be designed to increase equality.

Let the state regulate and the market operate (most things).

Welfare strategies are best designed as a hand up not as a hand out.
